Scanning & organizing cards has never been easier - or smarter

CardMill™ is a hands-free desktop device that scans, identifies, and sorts your trading cards automatically, freeing up your time, your table, and your sanity. With the push of a button, it loads each card, uses AI-powered image recognition to identify and catalog it, and places it into trays based on your preferences, alphabetically by 1st, 2nd or 3rd letter, by set, by color, card type, rarity or price-based (up to 5 tiers). We built CardMill™ for collectors and players who are tired of the manual grind and want a smarter, faster, and more accurate way to manage their collection.

V1 Prototype
Please note what is presented here is CardMill V1 prototype. We are actively in process of developing V2, our production model, and are exploring increasing speed, tray capacity, card handling, accuracy, web portal features and much more. Currently V1 takes 1 hour to process 300 cards. We are targeting to get that down to 30-40 min per 300 cards. We continue to improve card identification and are targeting 95-100% accuracy. Thanks to our Kickstarter backer’s support we can invest more and push this product to new heights.

One payment. Unlimited scans for backers.

CardMill™ was born out of frustration with expensive machines that monopolize your workspace and charge you a monthly fee just to do the thing they were built for. We knew there had to be a better way, there wasn't, so we made one.

A promise to our backers: no recurring fees.
How it works.

GET STARED WITH CARD MILL - FAST, EASY, ORGANIZED

Using CardMill is easy - load cards, press the button, walk away. CardMill™ is built to handle it all, from freshly cracked booster boxes to massive bulk lots you bought online months ago.

Card Protection - Utmost care and extensive testing was given to cards in the design process.

We've taken a lot of care to ensure the safety of cards processed through CardMill™. We use a non-abrasive rubber to move the card from the hopper to the chamber. Then, the card glides into position for identification. After that, gravity will then gently place the card into the discharge tray. The tray itself is designed with curved bottoms to create a gentler fall into place and we are exploring materials or lining to manufacture the tray with to create a softer landing when it's placed into position. We are also developing a sensor in the card discharge funnel to detect if a card is stuck and it will automatically stop the processing if it detects a stuck card. Also CardMill works with perfect fit sleeves so you can run your cards through with a level of protection if you choose to. Our goal from day 1 of CardMill™ has always been the protection of cards. And with a lot of tweaking, we've been able to achieve this.

Everyone's asking "will CardMill™ damage my cards?" We heard you, and now we'll show you...by using an Unlimited Black Lotus, a Time Walk, and some OG Duals. For those that don't know, them some expensive MTG cards!

How It All Started - CardMill was born our of frustration.

Like many collectors, we were spending entire weekends sorting bulk cards instead of actually playing the games we love. We tried everything, manual mobile scanners, spreadsheet inventories, shoeboxes, and still ended up with a disorganized mess.

People ask, "Why build the CardMill™?" Simple, because nothing like it exists for the everyday trading card player and collector. As longtime TCG players and traders, we’ve spent countless hours manually entering cards into online tools to track collections, organize trades, and build decks. The process is tedious, and existing high-end scanners are expensive. Now, CardMill™ offers an affordable, efficient way for collectors to inventory their cards without that hassle.

Built by players, for players.
Rewards

To help you customize your CardMill™ experience, we’re offering a lineup of optional add-ons designed to fit the way you collect.

Production plan & timeline

We’ve completed our working prototype and are working on our production model for full scale manufacturing. The AI recognition model continues to improve with additional training data, and we’re making final adjustments to the tray mechanics, movement, and card handling to optimize speed and reliability. Our team is also actively refining the electronic components, including the PCB and software integration.

Our design partners, Beyond Design, DMC and Product Evo bring over 30 years of product development expertise, and as design for manufacturing wraps up, we’ll select the right manufacturing partner for injection-molded production of CardMill units.

When we first launched CardMill, the prototype was designed for small-batch 3D printing. Thanks to the overwhelming success of this campaign of more than 5,000 units backed, the project has naturally evolved to meet full production-scale standards. We’ve transitioned from 3D printing to professional-grade injection molding, the industry benchmark for durable, consistent, and precise hardware. This evolution is a normal and essential step in hardware development, moving from prototype to scalable manufacturing, ensuring every unit meets the quality and longevity you expect.

With the current manufacturing path in view and based on guidance from our manufacturing partners, we are targeting mass production for Wave 1 backers (pledges prior to March 31, 2026) beginning in October 2026, with fulfillment expected to begin in December 2026 - January 2027. Pledges after March 31, 2026 will fall into a Wave 2 fulfillment group with estimated delivery in Spring 2027.

Moving to injection-molded production introduces steps that don’t exist with 3D printing. These include finalizing designs to ready for this type of manufacturing, cutting molds and multiple test phases to confirm fit and performance, and making sure every part functions consistently before mass production begins.

We’ll continue sharing updates on the engineering and production process. CardMill remains in active development and moving forward strong. Thank you for your support and patience as we scale up, we can’t wait to deliver your CardMill!

Shipping and taxes are not collected with your Kickstarter pledge, they will be collected in a 2 part backer survey. We will be sending out a Phase 2 backer survey closer to fulfillment to collect your final shipping address and shipping and handling fees. We’re working hard to keep rates low and predictable for all backers. Flat-rate pricing is our goal and we’ll post detailed information closer to fulfillment.

Estimated US Shipping:
$40-$60 per unit (Within the Continental US)

Approved International Regions
(Canada, European Union, United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland and Austrailia)
Shipping estimates will come closer to fulfillment in Phase 2 of a fulfillment survey. International backers will be responsible for VAT/GST, import duties or taxes, customs fees, international shipping costs.

* Shipping costs are estimated and may be adjusted closer to fulfillment due to changes in carrier pricing, fuel costs, or global shipping conditions.
* Additional add-ons like trays, hoppers and accessories depending on quantities might increase shipping estimate.

We’re collectors ourselves, and we’re committed to delivering a product that works reliably, and a support experience that respects your time and your collection.

Stretch goals

Please note: The artists are currently hard at work creating some amazing pieces. Backers will be able to view the final art for any art add-ons and make their final selections in the backer survey which will be sent out in March 2026 once all art is final and CardMill V2 is ready for production. We will be sure to post any sneak peeks of the art as we receive it.

Prototype Disclaimer:

CardMill™ is currently in the advanced prototype phase. The product shown in photos and videos on this Kickstarter page represents our current working design, which will continue to evolve as we transition into full production. Cosmetic, electronic, and hardware components may change to improve manufacturing efficiency, durability, and overall user experience. This may include updates to overall size, material finishes, color options, tray or unit dimensions, trays, internal mechanisms, screens or circuitry based on testing feedback and production requirements.

These refinements are a normal and essential part of developing any first-generation consumer electronic product and ensure that the final version delivers the best possible performance, reliability, and usability. Some elements may remain as shown, while others will be enhanced or optimized for consistency and quality.

We’ll keep our backers fully informed throughout the process, sharing transparent updates as we move from prototype to production and final assembly.

Intellectual Property Notice

CardMill™ is patent pending. We’ve filed a provisional patent application with the USPTO to protect the design, technology, and methods behind CardMill. This step helps us secure our invention while we bring it to market. Trademark protections are also in place for the CardMill name and branding.

Trademark Notice

CardMill™ and Scan. Sort. Done.™ are trademarks of CardMill LLC. All names, logos, and taglines associated with our device and platform are protected by trademark law. Other trademarks, images, or names appearing in campaign content (such as card names or brands referenced for demonstration purposes) remain the property of their respective owners and are used for illustrative purposes only.

Risks and challenges

As with any hardware project, there are risks related to manufacturing, supply chain logistics, and scaling production. As a product moves from prototype to full manufacturing, some aspects of design and production may evolve to meet quality, safety, and volume requirements. We’re being thoughtful about each stage and have already taken major steps to mitigate those risks: ✅ Completed fully functional V1 Prototype ✅ Engaged experienced engineering partners with proven consumer-product success ✅ Established trusted industry relationships to help us vet and secure the right manufacturing partners ✅ Built a scalable software infrastructure to support reliable updates and future feature expansion We’re currently in the early stages of the manufacturing phase and are working with experts who have long-standing relationships with reputable suppliers and assemblers both in the U.S. and abroad. This network gives us confidence that we’ll find the right fit for CardMill’s scale and quality needs. As with most first-generation consumer electronics, it’s normal for timelines to shift as designs are refined and optimized for large-scale manufacturing. These revisions ensure we deliver the most durable, reliable, and user-friendly product possible. We’ll remain transparent throughout the entire production process and will continue to provide regular updates—especially if any timelines or sourcing details change as we move from prototype to production.

Use of AI

My project is not raising funds to develop AI, nor does it use AI-generated content. CardMill uses AI technology strictly as a tool to identify trading cards during scanning. The AI is a backend component that supports card recognition, but all creative, design, and development work—including this Kickstarter campaign—has been created by humans.

Environmental commitments

Visit our Environmental Resources Center to learn how Kickstarter encourages sustainable practices.

Long-lasting design

CardMill™ is built to last. We’ve chosen high-quality components and a sturdy frame to ensure years of reliable, daily use. Whether you’re scanning a few cards a week or a thousand, CardMill™ is designed to stay in service long-term. Fewer replacements mean less electronic waste, and more time spent organizing, not upgrading.

Reusability and recyclability

CardMill™ isn’t a disposable gadget, it’s a long-term tool for collectors. When the time comes, we’re committed to responsible end-of-life practices. The device is designed for easy disassembly, and key components are recyclable wherever possible.

Sustainable materials

We’re actively working with our partners to minimize CardMill’s™ environmental footprint. That includes using recyclable packaging, reducing box sizes to cut down on shipping emissions, and eliminating unnecessary plastics. Our goal: compact, protective, and plastic-free packaging wherever possible.

Sustainable Distribution

While certain components require high-performance materials that can’t yet be recycled, we’re exploring alternatives, like recycled ABS plastic for external housings and cardboard-based inserts for shipping. We're also evaluating shipping strategies that group orders and minimize carbon output, balancing durability with sustainability.

Something else

We know manufacturing has an environmental cost. That’s why we’re exploring additional ways to reduce our impact, such as carbon offsetting, tree planting, or partnering with sustainability-focused organizations. We believe building powerful tools doesn’t mean ignoring our footprint, it means taking responsibility for it.
